Proflavine is also called proflavin or diaminoacridine, is an acriflavine derivative, a disinfectant bacteriostatic against many gram-positive bacteria. It is used as a topical antiseptic, and was also formerly used as a urinary antiseptic

An orange to red, crystalline powder, odourless and bitter tasting.  Hygroscopic. Soluble at 20⁰C in 300 parts of water and in 35 parts of

glycerol; very slightly soluble in alcohol (95%); insoluble in chloroform and in solvent ether.
