Resorcinol comes in a form of colourless or slightly pinkish-grey, crystalline powder or crystals, turning red on exposure to light and air. It is easily soluble in water and in alcohol.
Resorcinol is used in the production of resins and as an intermediate for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds.
In cosmetics and medicine it is used in topical acne treatments. Resorcinol and its derivatives are also used in treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa, various deep skin cleaners and throat lozenges.
